Robert Redford Biography

Charles Robert Redford Jr. was born August 18, 1937, better known as Robert Redford, is an American actor, director, producer, businessman, model, environmentalist, philanthropist, and founder of the Sundance Film Festival. He's half-brother, William, from his father's new marriage. Redford is of English and Scottish-Irish descent.



Redford's career - as almost all big stars who appeared in 1950 - began in New York, where a player could find work in both television and on stage. Redford's Broadway debut was in a small role in Tall Story, followed by parts in the tallest tree and Sunday in New York. His biggest Broadway success was as the stuffy newlywed husband, Elizabeth Ashley in Neil Simon's Barefoot in the Park.

He also played in the war film A Bridge Too Far, 1977, and baseball movie The Natural to the 1984th Redford continued his involvement in mainstream Hollywood films, but the projects were fewer. Redford had long had ambitions to work on both sides of the lens. As early as 1969, Redford had served as executive producer for Downhill Racer.
